Tigard ballot measure: Supporters, opponents differ over true meaning of initiative

A special election in Tigard is underway, and the fate of proposed high-capacity transit projects in the city will be decided in just over a week.

 

Supporters of Ballot Measure 34-210 say it is about residents’ right to vote on high capacity transit projects. If the citizen-led initiative passes, Tigard would be unable to amend its comprehensive plan or land-use regulations to accommodate light-rail or bus-rapid-transit projects without voter approval.
