Amendment 1 is proposal that was placed on the ballot in October 2007 by the state legislature increases the state's homestead exemption to $50,000 from $25,000. This will translate into a tax break of about $240 year for the average homeowner. If approved, this proposal is projected cut taxes by $9.3 billion over the next five years which will result in reduced funding for government services including transportation.
