General Ballot Measure Information

State Ballot Process
Utah has allowed both initiatives and referendums since 1900. Citizens cannot place constitutional amendments on the ballot. Certain restrictions apply to animal related initiatives and the legislature has recently increased the distribution requirements for initiatives. Signed petitions are due the first of June in even numbered years to qualify for placement on the November general election ballot.
